CAMOUFLAGE TREATMENT

CAMOUFLAGE TREATMENT

Camouflage treatment is a specialised tattooing technique that blends custom-matched pigment into scars, stretch marks, or areas of skin discoloration to help them appear more even and natural. It’s a great option for those wanting to soften the appearance of visible marks and feel more confident in their skin.

Key points to keep in mind:

  • Best for stable, fully healed scars – the area should be at least 12 months old and not changing in colour or texture.

  • Custom colour-matching is essential – pigment is blended to suit your natural skin tone for the most seamless result.

  • Multiple sessions may be needed – gradual layering gives a more natural finish and longer-lasting results.

  • Healing time is minimal – mild redness is normal, and most people return to daily activities quickly.

  • Results vary by skin type – some skin holds pigment better than others, and a touch-up may be required.

  • Sun protection is key – UV exposure can affect pigment retention and colour.

  • A consultation is important – to assess suitability and set realistic expectations, especially for textured or very light/dark scars.

Camouflage Tattooing CONTRAINDICATIONS - I cannot treat the following clients

  • Clients under the age of 18.
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have diabetes (especially if poorly controlled)
  • Have autoimmune conditions that affect healing (e.g. lupus)
  • Have a bleeding disorder or are taking blood-thinning medication (unless cleared by a GP)
  • Are undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy, or have done so recently
  • Have a compromised immune system
  • Have a known allergy to pigments, inks, or numbing agents
  • Unhealed or recent scars (scars must usually be at least 12 months old)
  • Open wounds, cuts, or broken skin in the treatment area
  • Active skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, or infections in the area
  • Keloid or hypertrophic scarring, as tattooing may worsen the scar
  • Active acne or inflammation in the treatment area
  • Skin cancer or suspicious lesions near the area to be treated
  • Recent sunburn or very sensitive, irritated skin

Other important factors:

  • Vitiligo clients require specialist assessment and may not be suitable in all cases
  • Very dark or very uneven skin tones may not achieve optimal blending results
  • Recent aesthetic treatments (laser, microneedling, chemical peels) in the area may require a waiting period
  • Unrealistic expectations – camouflage tattooing improves appearance but does not completely remove scars or marks
